The body is a spacesuit
If the body is a spacesuit — a bulldozer gnawing into the bedrock of reality, grinding food into energy — then the brain, the mind, is a psychological computer. It analyzes the video feed plus all the body’s sensor readings and produces images, thoughts, and explains to us what’s happening in familiar terms. All of this happens with a noticeable delay we’ve stopped noticing. We are the last ones in our own body to find out what’s going on. From the mind, which operates only in familiar categories. Thoughts, like a stomachache, are not your decision. And this process can be controlled.
