Pixar: Inside Out

Inside Out is a beautiful movie that gets one thing fundamentally wrong. It puts Joy in a row with Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear — as if they’re equals. They’re not.

Joy is the only real emotion. It’s what you are born with. Everything wants to live. Look at kids, kittens, cubs — they play all the time. They still feel the Joy.

The rest? Variants of fear. Fear masks itself as anxiety, greed, peer pressure, social pressure. Everything Pixar used in their animated feature — all of it is fear wearing different costumes.

These emotions are products of the earth suit — the body’s alarm system doing its job. But the movie treats them as if they belong at the control panel alongside Joy. They don’t. The whole part shown in Inside Out isn’t needed. Suffering is optional. Joy is the only valid emotion. It is life itself.
