Second Life

Confucius allegedly said “We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we have only one”.
I saw it somewhere on the internet and it hit me. Wait, what am I doing with my life? And that is how the bounceback started.
Until then I was living the first one. The first life runs on a quiet assumption: this is a draft, the real thing starts later — after this project, once things settle. You can spend decades inside that “later”. I did. Work was going fine, plans kept stacking up, and the main part waited somewhere ahead.
Awakening is supposed to come with thunder and light. Mine looked like a line of text somewhere between memes — and it still cut my life in two, before and after. Nothing around me changed that day. Everything in me did.
Later I found the words for it: I had spent my whole life looking through binoculars from the wrong end. Everything that mattered sat tiny and far away, filed under someday. That sentence turned the binoculars around. Same view, suddenly close. And there is exactly one of it.
The second life doesn’t wait for a ceremony — no Monday, no January first. It starts the second the realization lands: mid-scroll, mid-conversation. Nobody around you notices a thing.
The Reading List
Затворник и Шестипалый
Hermit and Six-Toes — Victor Pelevin
The most precise book about awakening is written about chickens. A manual for liberation disguised as a fairy tale. Two hours to read — then decide which world you live in.
My second life. The only one there was. The only one there is. Forever. And forever isn’t that long either, because now I want every drop of it. You want every drop of it. But how much of “it” are you actually seeing?
