Think forward

I found my way out just by thinking. It’s unbelievable. And I don’t want to go back.

I texted that to a friend at five in the morning, in Phuket, in September 2023. Half an hour earlier an insight had taken shape: you become someone in your head first. You make up a new self and move in.

Then it hit me. Since there’s no such thing as bad, you just look at what comes out of a person “forward.” Someone being greedy, swearing or drinking — that “doesn’t exist.” Their mind got them tangled. They just can’t help it. And what’s really there? Only the good counts.

Two minutes after “I don’t want to go back” I wrote: Live now, think forward. I had never come across anyone thinking forward.

In the summer of 2026 I dreamed there was a thin film around me, a living universe. Everything I said and did planted seeds in it. I was planting myself. Then I woke up and the dream began to fade, but I held on to the main thing: be like the creator. Create the reality around you.

True thoughts don’t start outside. You can tell them by their source and their direction. The push has to come from within. What set this thought off, and where is it pointing? Into the past? At judging what already happened? Or at creating a new reality?

Everything that pulls you back — fears, doubts, second thoughts — is a lie. A game the mind plays. Real thoughts point forward. They make reality better. That’s the nature of an insight.

We only ever live forward, and you keep forgetting it. The brain gets stuck in what’s already gone. Take things as they’ve become, not as they were. I’m draining the brake fluid out of everything — out of how I talk, how I think, how I live.

The psychologist Daniel Wegner once asked students to spend five minutes not thinking about a white bear, and to ring a bell whenever the bear showed up anyway. They rang it more than once a minute. You can’t focus on what you want and what you don’t want at the same time.

Keep making up what else you could do. Otherwise you’ll be doing what someone else made up. Make up your life, and it starts to happen.

When you notice there’s nothing bad and the negativity drains out of your life, it isn’t only the present that gets better. The past gets rewritten. Old troubles and grudges drop out of your memories, as if someone re-edited the film. Director’s cut. Rather than sorting through grudges one at a time, it’s easier to let go of all of them at once. And if something does come back to you, the bad feeling just doesn’t show up. It happened, that’s all.

Hate is baggage. Life’s too short to be pissed off all the time. It’s just not worth it.

Everything is a lesson. Swap “I should have” for “next time.” Better to remember everything with gratitude and plan with joy.

You live forward all the time, creating the next reality. And that means not being afraid.

Karma is what you do. Krishna said as much: add karma to the world. It drips off us into the world all the time anyway. When you consume, the world flows into you. When you create, you flow into the world.

No rituals. Just be. Don’t hold back. Pour karma into the world. The universe looks out through you.

Just don’t take my word for it.
